With the mood of the market in Delhi back in full swing, it has given the upcoming food industry a much-needed boost as well. Because of the digital connectivity and multiple startups in varying fields hitting the market by the day, more and more entrepreneurs are now able to run small businesses from the comfort of their homes, and well succeed at them, too. We decided to countdown some of the best food startups in their respective areas, starting with home-bakers for today.
While it’s only been about a year since Devika Narula Custom Cakes, the home-run bakery run by Devika Narula, took off, she’s no stranger to the food industry. Having been cooking from a very young age, Devika has had her skill take her to the second season of Master Chef India, where she was selected as one of the 12 finalists. And it shows in her desserts, especially her Red Velvet Cookies and Brownies.
Gazal Sharma has always been fascinated by art, and her inclination towards art reflects in her desserts. Lavender Crust, her bakery, specializes in wedding cakes and tier cakes, and all her products are as good to look at as they are to eat. This one is definitely recommended if you’re a fan of Fondant.
Avantika Madhok might have done her studies in management, but her love for baking was what eventually, but inevitably, led her to start The Cake Boutique. While it has been just a little over a year since it started, The Cake Boutique has been able to leave quite a mark in the entrepreneurial food market. We’d recommend the Dark Chocolate Ganache cupcakes and cakes in case you decide to try The Cake Boutique out.
Sana Nair runs the The Mellow Yellow Co. out of her house, though her desserts hardly give that away. Using her previous experience at Cordon Bleu, one of her specialties is simplicity. The USP of The Mellow Yellow Co. is the various combinations used in making the desserts, and her cupcakes are what we’d definitely recommend you try (especially the Apple Cake with Cinnamon frosting), in case you haven’t already.
One of the youngest entrepreneurs on the list, Pavani Kaur’s Firefly India is another home-run bakery that we can’t recommend enough. Even though Kaur doesn’t have any formal training in baking, her experience at the oven has been enough to establish herself as one-of-the-best’s in the baking game. And she does it without much help at all, except for the one assistant to help her manage the venture.
Being all of 20 years of age, Shivesh Bhatia has definitely achieved more in a short period of time than what a lot of aspiring bakers can only dream of. Having already been featured by Instagram, Shivesh is a self-taught baker who’s sort of perfected the art, all the while still completing his studies at Delhi University. His first experience with baking came about when he stumbled upon Linda Lomelino’s website, Call-Me-Cupcake, and hasn’t looked back ever since.
